It’s time for Part 6 of the Crochet Embroidered Sampler Series! We’re almost done! In Part 5 we added lazy daisies to the final sampler section. Today we’ll be finishing up the sampler by adding fringe and a dowel to make it wall decor ready!

Crochet Embroidered Sampler: Adding The Final Touches

It’s time to finish up your sampler! You can really add some unique character to your sampler in this final step depending on what yarn (or other material) you use for the fringe, as well as what you choose to hang your sampler from. The steps below can be followed for and adapted to whatever material you choose.

Supplies Needed:

darning needle
small embroidery snips or scissors
the crochet hook you used to make your sampler base
small wooden dowel (or small branch, driftwood, pipe, etc) that measures approximately 1-2 inches longer than the width of your sampler
25 pieces of yarn (can be same yarn used for sampler base or different, or another material such as fabric strips or suede cord) that measure 12 inches each, or longer/shorter if you feel that works best with your sampler
1 piece of yarn measuring the width of your sampler x’s 2, + 2 inches to use as hanger

Adding The Wooden Dowel:

Remember the yarn tail we left on the sampler when we finished crocheting it? We’re going to use that to attach the dowel.

Using a darning needle, whipstitch the dowel to the top of the sampler by bringing the yarn tail around the front of the dowel then back through a top stitch of the sampler, then around again, working into every other stitch.

Once you reach the end of the sampler, bring the yarn tail to the back and tie off in the same way as with the embroidery.

Weave in the end as shown above.

Adding The Fringe:

Now it’s time for the fun part, adding the fringe. Have your 25 pieces of yarn ready to go, along with your crochet hook.

You will work one piece of yarn through each sampler foundation stitch. fold piece of yarn in half and use crochet hook to pull middle through stitch from front to back. Do not pull all the way through.

Using crochet hook again, pull yarn ends through loop, front to back.

Pull taught. Finished piece of fringe should look like this.

Once you have every piece of fringe finished you can trim the ends to the same length or leave them a little messy, as I did. Different yarns and materials will create different effects.
