In December, the yarn for my current design project arrived. I am extra excited for this project as it’s a submitted and accepted design for The Fibre Co’s yarn support programme. I’m using their Cumbria Fingering yarn, a wool and mohair blend, in the color Castlerigg. This yarn is surprisingly soft, even with its mohair content, and glides smoothly over my hook as I crochet. Next to no tangling as well.

I like the color as well. It seems to change depending on the lighting it’s in, sometimes appearing more purple, sometimes more grey. You can see this illustrated more in process pics on my Instagram.

I’m extremely excited about the design itself, too. I’ve been playing around with ideas for a button front cropped, simple top for about a year, and when working on submission ideas, it finally clicked. The garment has a button placket in front and a deep v-neck in back, with a shell stitch detail on the front yoke, and a slight flare overall. It’s a boxy fit garment with wide, cuffed sleeves.

I am almost done with the sample and decided on which buttons to use just a few days ago. (I didn’t use the one in this picture, but I did put this grouping back in storage together to maybe use on another project someday.)

I’ve worked on heavily streamlining my designing, writing, grading and editing process with this design and it’s been going well so far. It definitely seems much smoother and less overwhelming. Maybe I’ll share about this more at some point once I’ve further perfected it.

Those on my tester list should keep an eye out within the next month for testing info, and if you’d like to sign up for the tales of butterflies tester list, you can do that here.
