keeping warm this year
(Originally written on November 3rd, 2023.)
The weather has already started to dip into wintery chill, and next week the time will change and our evenings will be exponentially dark. I’ve already felt the weight of the seasonal change and my SAD light has made a few appearances. It makes me feel doubtful as I anticipate the SAD season this year. If I already feel so affected, how will I manage to “keep warm” this winter?
But with all those thoughts and all that said, I’m still going to try.
a note on the illustrated title
I was inspired to create an illustrated title for this year’s go. My husband and I finally watched Over the Garden Wall this year and I was so inspired by the chapter titles’ typography and style, so my original plan was to base the keeping warm title style on those. But as I was researching fonts I found floral dropcaps and decided to go in that direction instead. The drop caps in the title are all completely hand-drawn and illustrated by me. I did still keep that old-fashioned, fairytale sort-of style from Over the Garden Wall, I think.

How do you “keep warm” during the dark, cold, wintery months?
