Taking a (Little) Break From Crocheting for Healing
Well, guys, my hands have had a bit of a dramatic time the last few days. I mentioned a bit ago on Instagram that I have a wrist issue that flares up occasionally, but for the past few months it’s been persisting. I finally saw a specialist for it last Friday and along with x-rays (no bone fractures, thankfully!) and other guidance for healing I was given a steroid shot in my wrist to help with inflammation.
The steroid shot will help over the next few weeks but for a day or two the injection site can be swollen and sore, especially once the lidocaine wears off. It was pretty painful, but my sore wrist belongs to my non-dominant hand, so I thought, “Well, at least I’ll still be able to write and draw.”
Ha. Welp…
A few hours later we were at home and our kitten somehow managed to get one of his paws caught in the grate of a floor vent. He was flailing, screaming and panicking, and even managed to pull the grate out of the floor, still stuck. I ran to him and grabbed him to try and help release him but the moment I did he turned his head and bit down HARD on the base knuckle of my pointer finger on my left hand.
My dominant hand.
No hard feelings to the kitty cat, he was panicked and having someone grab him was startling. (He’s okay, by the way, no signs of injury.) My knuckle, however, was immediately bruised and swollen, with pain shooting down the finger. He managed to dig one of his teeth into the muscle at the base of that finger so there was a small pool of blood and lots of swelling. The swelling has gone down a lot by today, but there is still pain.
While the doctor said I could base my level of activity – like exercise or crocheting – on my pain levels, I had already planned to not crochet for at least most of this week to aid in healing my wrist and give the steroid time to start working. And now I’m forced to, it seems, unless I want to be in a lot of pain.
Thankfully, I have two hat patterns already sampled with just grading and PDF editing to go before sending to testers (if you haven’t signed up for my tester list and would like to you can do so here) and some illustration editing to work on if I’d like. Just dealing with a bit more drama than I’d planned, hand-wise.

Hi Mindy, I can relate to your pain issues from over crocheting or from my Kitty Crumpet’s occasional love bites. I always keep a bottle of peroxide, bacitracin and bandages handy to fend off immediate infection. Love your great info on wirking with linen.❤️

Thank you so much! :)
