picnic with wildflowers editorial illustration

I participated in drawtober 2022 this year! I made it to thirteen prompts before deciding to be done for the month and move on to other projects.

This year I followed a prompt list from Randi Lynn Reed Illustration, who hodgepodged it together from a couple other artists’ inktober lists. I originally planned to use furrylittlepeach’s peachtober prompt list again this year, but when the prompt list dropped, I really wasn’t feeling inspired by it overall. I happened to see Randi share her list on IG stories one day, and it had all the cozy vibes I was looking for. (I believe she made it all the way through the prompt list, you can see her illustrations on her IG here.)

I used a limited color palette this year and the same sepia-toned background and line art colors on each illustration to keep things looking more cohesive than my peachtober attempt last year. I also leaned into the sketchy style I’ve been loving and honing in on. These illustrations were each done over a day or two, so not as much time spent on them as I typically would for a full illustration.

You can see all of my drawtober illustrations on my IG here. And if you’re interested in the process, I shared a few timelapses and “reveals” over on my Tiktok here.

Below are my favorites from the challenge. Which one is your favorite?

Illustration of small tan and yellow cottage with a small walking path, in the middle of a meadow and patches of green trees.
day 3 – “cozy cottage”
Illustration of a woman in a pink hoodie and jean shorts walking on a path through a vast forest full of tall trees and yellow wildflowers.
day 4 – “forest walk”
Illustration of a quilt pattern featuring four star blocks in navy blue, light pink, and mustard yellow, with a vintage-style floral in the center of each star.
day 6 – “quilt
Illustration of a fluffy cat wrapped in a green, cozy blanket, sitting in little girl's lap.
day 9 – “bundled up”
Illustration of picnic in meadow of mustard yellow flowers and green grass. A picnic basket with cheese slices, biscuits, and jam spread out on a light pink blanket.
day 10 – “picnic”
Illustration of a bookshelf wall with lots of books and a few artworks, featuring detailed floral carved engraving elements. There is a window seat in the center with a long blue cushion. A little tan cat is curled up on a navy blue blanket on the seat beside a small stack of books and a yellow mug. The window has a yellow frame and light pink curtains.
day 11 – “reading nook”
Illustration of a hobbit hole style house build into the underside of a small green hill with a forest behind. The house has a rounded set of mustard yellow doors and two round windows with light pink curtains on the inside. There is a woodpile beside the house on the left, and a trellis with pink roses on the right. A brown picket fence with light pink flowers at it's base is in the foreground.
day 13 – “hobbit hole”

Let me know which drawtober 2022 illustration you like best! I might wind up putting prints of a few of these in my shop at some point.
