October Things

A few things that stood out this October:

1. My toddler has been learning random letters and numbers (I’m assuming starting preschool this fall has helped spur this at least a little bit) so we’re really trying to run with it. He really loves the letter ‘O’ and will point it out and shout intensely, “OOOOO!” when he sees one.

2. I finished the updated draft of a star stitch sweater and it’s now ready to be edited and graded. Woo!

3. We took my son to a pumpkin patch/apple orchard for the first time. It was mostly fun and he enjoyed having the freedom to run around, but that made it a bit harrowing for my husband and me since the orchard we went to didn’t have the best parking set up and the apples trees were located on the side of a steep hill. Definitely more suitable for older kids. When we took him to the actual patch to pick a pumpkin, I don’t think he quite understood what to do, so we picked a green one for him since he’d been really interested in a green one they’d had over near the games area.

Waters Wears: Keeping Warm

An original goal with this blog was to share outfits that 1) I really liked and 2) included something I’d made or mended. Since I started in spring, not exactly keen crochet time, this led to me coming up with outfits that included things I’d made, and pushed me to make some of the ideas I’d had for a while, such as a few necklaces, rings, bracelets. I tried really hard to have at least one outfit up each week, which left me teetering on the line of whether I was forcing these outfits just so I’d have something to post or really sharing outfits I loved. I think I was somewhere in the middle with that, and it wasn’t necessarily all a bad thing; it did force me to create and wear more of the things I’d made.

I thought, however, that when fall and winter came around, having outfits that fit my criteria would be easier, since the weather lends itself to crochet hats, scarves, gloves, etc. But in reality, winter for me is all about layers for keeping warm, and even though a lot of what I wear includes crochet hats, scarves, and gloves, the outfits aren’t necessarily anything particularly cool, and are also pretty repetitive.

I do love layering, though, and sweaters and warm socks, and these are the reality of what I wear lately. So I’ve decided to do a little series of sorts. We’ll call it, “Keeping Warm.” I think I’ll share an outfit of the day and maybe also a little on what I’m doing or thinking that day.

This picture was taken after I’d been out with my husband. This is a typical winter, survive-the-cold outfit for me, although if I’m staying at home for the day I tend to wear comfy sweatpants or nice lounge pants instead of the jeans.

Hopefully this’ll be a fun little collection of pictures/journal entries of sorts by the end.
