Waters Wears: Keeping Warm

sweaterseries1

An original goal with this blog was to share outfits that 1) I really liked and 2) included something I’d made or mended. Since I started in spring, not exactly keen crochet time, this led to me coming up with outfits that included things I’d made, and pushed me to make some of the ideas I’d had for a while, such as a few necklaces, rings, bracelets. I tried really hard to have at least one outfit up each week, which left me teetering on the line of whether I was forcing these outfits just so I’d have something to post or really sharing outfits I loved. I think I was somewhere in the middle with that, and it wasn’t necessarily all a bad thing; it did force me to create and wear more of the things I’d made.

I thought, however, that when fall and winter came around, having outfits that fit my criteria would be easier, since the weather lends itself to crochet hats, scarves, gloves, etc. But in reality, winter for me is all about layers for keeping warm, and even though a lot of what I wear includes crochet hats, scarves, and gloves, the outfits aren’t necessarily anything particularly cool, and are also pretty repetitive.

I do love layering, though, and sweaters and warm socks, and these are the reality of what I wear lately. So I’ve decided to do a little series of sorts. We’ll call it, “Keeping Warm.” I think I’ll share an outfit of the day and maybe also a little on what I’m doing or thinking that day.

This picture was taken after I’d been out with my husband. This is a typical winter, survive-the-cold outfit for me, although if I’m staying at home for the day I tend to wear comfy sweatpants or nice lounge pants instead of the jeans.

Hopefully this’ll be a fun little collection of pictures/journal entries of sorts by the end.

Waters Wears: A Favorite Color Combo

favoritecolorcombo1

Just a quick post today about an outfit that’s become a favorite. I recently got this shirt and discovered I really like it combined with this vest I’ve had for years. The striped socks add a bit of quirkiness that I like. All in all this is a pretty true-to-me outfit, and I love the way the shades of purple and pink work together.

Another note, I really love this shirt.

Welp, I’m off to spend time with friends on this rainy day. Hope you and yours are having a beautiful and safe day as well. It’s supposed to get icy around here.

Waters Wears: Crochet Pleated Skirt

I started this skirt MONTHS ago, probably at least last summer, stopped working on it for a while (not because I was frustrated with it or anything like that, I was just working on other things), then picked it up and finished it just before Christmas. I’m really pleased with it.

It’s honestly a really easy item to just throw on and mix and match with winter layers, and I think it’ll be great in spring and summer, too. I made it to fit high waisted (a personal favorite waist height), but the elastic is strong enough that it can be worn closer to the hips, too. It’s also just really comfortable.

In reality, the overall time for making this skirt is probably less than a week, working a few hours a day, especially after getting the pleat forming down, even though it took me longer – Honestly, I had been working on it pretty leisurely, while my husband and some friends played tabletop, then I joined them, so I put the skirt away to focus on learning what I was doing. That’s why it got pushed aside for so long.

All in all, one of my favorite projects I’ve written and made; it works up well and also looks okay when worn.

(Pictures taken by my husband.)

Hope you all have a beautiful day!

UPDATE: There is now a pattern for this skirt available here, in my online shop.
